CAMPTON, N.H. – Three people were hurt in a crash involving a commercial tractor-trailer and a New Hampshire Department of Transportation truck.![]()

At 12:01 p.m. today, Sept. 25, 2024, State Troopers assigned to the Troop F barracks responded to Interstate 93 southbound in Campton near mile marker 86.6, for a reported crash with injuries. Troopers arrived and found two damaged vehicles, a tractor-trailer and a New Hampshire DOT truck, in the median.![]()

The preliminary investigation by Troopers determined that the driver of a 1997 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was traveling south on I-93, operating through an active construction zone where NH DOT was present and the travel lane was closed. As the driver of the tractor-trailer continued through the construction zone, the driver of a Ford F450 dump truck for the NH Department of Transportation, failed to yield and pulled out in front of the tractor-trailer from the closed travel lane. The operator of the F450 dump truck struck the tractor-trailer unit, sending both vehicles off the highway and into the median.![]()

The driver and passenger of the DOT truck, as well as the driver of the tractor-trailer, were transported by ambulance to an area hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries. ![]()

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. I-93 was partially closed in the area of the crash due to the investigation and cleanup for approximately 5 ½ hours. ![]()

On September 20th, 2024 at 6:16PM, Campton Police responded to NH Route 49 for a report of an unconscious male in a motor vehicle stopped in the roadway. The 911 caller indicated that the male who was involved was actively using inhalants and had become unconscious behind the wheel. Police arrived a short time later to find a Chevrolet Silverado partially off the roadway and into a ditch, with the male operator unconscious and holding a "Dust Off" aerosol can in his hand. A dog was also located in the vehicle. The driver was identified as;![]()

Police identified a bystander and witness who was behind O'Shea on NH Route 49 whose vehicle was struck during O'Shea's suspected impaired operation.![]()

Due to the fact that O'Shea was currently on probation and had endangered public safety Campton Police requested that he be held without bail on preventative detention. Contrary to the request a bail commissioner released O'Shea to appear in the Plymouth Court on 9/23/24.

A 46-year-old male was arrested for criminal trespassing, theft, criminal mischief, and operating a motorcycle without a license on US Route 3![]()

A 27-year-old male was arrested on US Route 3 on a warrant for Haverhill PD![]()

Additionally, the police department made 54 motor vehicle stops, issued 50 warnings and 4 citations, and responded to 9 motor vehicle crashes.
Beech Hill Rd at the Bog Dam is scheduled for closure on September 24-25 to facilitate culvert pipe replacement. The public is advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Contact 603-254-5908 or 603-726-3223 for further information.
The Ragnar Road Reach the Beach (RTB) will be held Sept. 13 - 14, 2024. The course will take runners and volunteers through Campton along NH Route 175 as they race from Lancaster Fairgrounds to Hampton Beach.![]()

National Police Woman Day is celebrated each year on September 12. The day acknowledges and celebrates the contribution of female police officers who enforce law and order around the country. Today, only roughly 10% of the police force in the United States is made up of women. National Police Woman Day hopes to rectify that by encouraging more women to join the service. Campaigns and events are organized to urge more women to take up law enforcement roles. Along with expressing gratitude to these officers, the day also hopes for a future where law enforcement bodies will have stronger female representation.

During the Selectmen's meeting on September 9, 2024, Jedd Ferris was sworn in as a Campton Police Officer.![]()

Officer Ferris is a graduate of the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, and served full-time in the United States Army for over ten years. He continues to serve as a Major in the United States Army Reserves.![]()

Officer Ferris earned the position following a competitive hiring process with several qualified candidates. He will be participating in Field Training and will be attending the New Hampshire Police Academy in January. The addition of Officer Ferris fills a vacancy that occurred in February and returns the department to full staff.![]()

Serious Motor Vehicle Crash![]()

On September 4, 2024, at 6:36PM, Campton Police and Fire were dispatched to Winterbrook Road for a motor vehicle roll-over crash with ejection.![]()

Once on scene, police located a 2013 Ford Mustang convertible approximately 65 feet into the woods that had left the roadway, snapped a utility pole, and rolled-over. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 42-year-old female, had been ejected and found to be suffering from serious injuries. Neighbors who had heard the crash rushed to the scene and were providing aid. ![]()

A landing zone was established at the Campton Elementary School, and the driver was flown by medical helicopter to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.![]()

Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors to the crash, and an update on the driver's condition is unavailable at this time. ![]()

Campton Police were assisted by the Campton-Thornton Fire Department, Campton Highway Department, and New Hampshire State Police. The roadway was shut down for several hours as utility crews worked to replace the pole and restore electricity to the area.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 1:46 PM, Campton Police responded to an assault involving a firearm that had occurred outside a business on NH Route 49. ![]()

Police learned that the victim had been injured after having been “pistol-whipped” by the suspect, who had left the scene in a vehicle. With the assistance of the Thornton Police Department, the vehicle and suspect were located shortly after.![]()

Following the arrest, Rodgers was held on cash bail and transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections pending arraignment.
This week Campton Police Officers are training in de-escalation strategies and response to resistance using a simulation training system hosted by Primex. These are emotionally immersive role-playing simulation scenarios with branching decision trees. Officers have an opportunity to exercise every facet of their training, from fine-tuning their presence, tone of voice, and de-escalation strategies to using force options when necessary, according to the law. ![]()

Throughout every scenario, the instructor can make adjustments to hone both individual and interdependent aspects of their students’ judgment, situational awareness, and de-escalation skills.
